In a discussion between Anwar Saeed, Afshar Malik, Laila Rahman and Atif Khan in the Cowasjee Printmaking Studio at the National College of Arts, Lahore,2013, the idea for this exhibition of artists engaged in only pure printmaking techniques was born. Rejecting the well worn boxprint collaborative, Anwar thought of the word "Origins" from which all the eleven artists would draw inspiration. To gain more depth and continuity we also agreed that three prints from each artist would provide a window into the creative process and journey undertaken by the whole group, yet will set parameters within which the artists will conceptualise and consider their path to this weighty word "Origins". The varied interpretations in the works are a testament to the rich vein of imagery, forms, textures and subtle allusions that this word prompted in us.
