ArtChowk the Gallery is proud to present the 2nd Jail Show

In memory of ArtChowk Team Member Mr. Abdul Wahid Khairi, with profound sadness and gratitude for his selflessness and dedication to the a

rts community and those less fortunate. Here we acknowledge one of his most ambitious projects, a quiet and profound contribution to society.

The meeting of two dedicated, disciplined and honest men, Mr. Nusrat Hussain Mangan,

Inspector General of Prisons Sindh, and Mr Abdul Wahid Khairi, a private citizen, a practising photographer and teacher of the craft by profession, resulted in the establishment of art schools within the walls of Central Jail and Landhi Jail, Karachi.  Both projects run classes for art, music and computer teaching in clean well equipped and spacious rooms, in a disciplined environment not dissimilar to that in one of our mainstream art schools. Sikander, the art teacher, is a dynamic and committed teacher, vested in the successes of his students, exposing them to contemporary developments and pushing them to bring out the best within them. In the context of their situations this exercise has special significance.

ArtChowk is proud to be associated with this wonderful project and for the first time will be showing works from Landhi Jail as well as Central Jail, Karachi.
